The mouthpiece: that crucial interface between player and instrument...

(left to right: tenor, treble, large and small bass cornett mouthpieces)

I am always looking for ways to make the cornett easier to play, and to improve aspects such as intonation, sound quality, endurance, articulation, and ease of playing in the high (or low!) register, and I have increasingly come to realise that the right choice of mouthpiece is the key to solving so many of the technical hurdles that the cornett presents. For that reason I started to make my own mouthpieces on a lathe in a small garden workshop in 2007, and I have since made many mouthpieces for myself and a growing number of satisfied customers in the UK, continental Europe and the United States.

I make bespoke mouthpieces for treble, alto and tenor cornetts, and have recently made a series of bass cornett mouthpieces for Roland Wilson (two of which are pictured above). I am planning to start making larger mouthpieces for serpents, sackbuts and baroque trumpets too, so watch this space!

Each mouthpiece is made to order to suit the individual player. If you are interested in one of my mouthpieces please contact me to discuss your requirements using the form on this website.
